With condensation and mould season upon on, now is the time for social housing providers to ensure that their housing stock is protected with effective ventilation. And with residents facing rising bills with the energy crisis, the Tempra’s heat recovery mode will be a welcome way to save money too.

Social housing providers have a challenging winter ahead. Many residents will be rationing their heating to save money, meaning condensation and mould is set to increase as homes need to be warm to avoid this. The Tempra helps tackles both these issues. Improving air quality on a room-by-room basis, the through-the-wall mounted Tempra single room heat recovery unit simultaneously extracts stale air and introduces fresh air – warming the incoming airflow with heat recovered from the exhaust air.

“The multi-award winning Lo-Carbon Tempra is the ideal solution for social housing providers since it provides effective ventilation to improve indoor air quality and avoid condensation and mould. But it also offers heat recovery, so residents won’t have to worry about having their extractor fan on and losing valuable heat”, said Natasha King, RMI Product Manager at Vent-Axia. “For social housing providers looking to improve ventilation and help lower energy bills for residents, the Tempra offers affordable, energy efficient, and easy to install single room heat recovery for the refurbishment market. It’s simply retrofitted through a 100mm diameter hole in the wall to replace older, less efficient ventilation.”

Vent-Axia’s Tempra single room heat recovery unit is a discreet, low energy, continuously running alternative to traditional extractor fans that offers affordable heat recovery of up to 78%. Allowing simple installation through a 100mm diameter hole in a wall, the innovative design of the unit enables standard bathroom, kitchen, toilet or utility room fans to be easily changed for a Tempra without the need to make the install hole any larger, saving substantially on installation time and cost. Available with two different spigot sizes, the Tempra can be fitted through wall depths of up to 320mm, or up to 460mm.

Central to the Tempra’s compact footprint required to fit in a 100mm diameter hole is its double wheel motorised impellers. The innovative technology allows for just one motor to be used with an extended shaft to drive two impellers to achieve double flow requirements, resulting in a very energy efficient solution. The unit’s performance, taken together with Tempra’s integral Lo-Carbon DC motor, brings significant energy savings and will help reduce a home’s carbon footprint with a low power consumption of just 3.2W on trickle rate and almost silent running at only 20dB(A).

Meeting the performance requirements for continuous extract fans under the current Building Regulations Approved Document F, the Tempra is IPX4 rated making it suitable for installing in the splash zone. It’s also available in three control models: pullcord; overrun timer; and a version with built-in pullcord, overrun timer and humidistat.

Discreet and quiet in operation, Tempra can be set to run continuously at 6 l/s or 9 l/s, boosting up to 15 l/s if required. For intermittent extract applications, the unit is set to operate at 15 l/s. It incorporates a manual summer setting to ensure that when it is warm outside, it operates on extract only. This eliminates the risk of the home overheating in hot summer weather. The Tempra is also designed so that the replacement air being introduced is at a reduced rate ensuring that the room being ventilated is still under a slight negative pressure. This ensures that fresh air is bought into the room from the rest of the house preventing humid air migrating.

For landlords looking to improve resident comfort this winter, the Tempra offers the ideal solution to tackle condensation and mould while helping ensure residents’ thermal comfort too.
